I Was Tired of Manually Comparing Revisions, So I Built a Text Comparison Analyzer Agent on Rival

Inside Rival: How We Use What We Build
This blog is part of Inside Rival, a series where our team shares how we use Rival in our everyday work. From favorite tools to AI agents and automations, we're showing you what we're building, how we're using it and what we've learned along the way.

As an analyst, the quality of my work is a top priority, whether the task is big or small, or whether I'm reviewing my own work or revisions made by my boss.

Reviewing work and understanding the changes others make are important parts of many workflows. For me, it's also personal. I want to make sure the work I contribute to is accurate and truly insightful. For example, when I build a report and my boss makes in-line edits, I want to understand what changed and why. It's an opportunity to assess my work, recognize what I might have missed, and learn from her feedback.

A practical example is website content optimization for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or Answer Engine Optimization (AEO). We need to identify what exists, what needs updating, and what to recommend based on our optimization strategy. Comparing the original and revised versions helps us verify that the changes align with our recommendations and objectives.

AI can certainly help, but comparing versions can still be tedious, whether manually or with an LLM. We could ask an LLM to identify the differences, but those conversations can easily get buried when we're juggling multiple tasks and projects. I wanted something dedicated to this specific need.

What made me build the agent?

It started with an FAQ optimization task for AEO. I retained the original version and prepared recommended changes for each FAQ based on best practices. My boss then made her own in-line edits during her review, and I was asked to conduct another round of quality checks to make sure nothing was overlooked.

I could have reviewed everything manually or used an LLM to compare each FAQ individually. Instead, I wanted to create a dedicated agent that would make the process easier and help me identify changes more quickly.

That's when I built the Text Comparison Analyzer Agent on Rival.

How I built it:

Everything started with RivalBot. I began by explaining the problem I wanted to solve, the solution I had in mind, and what I needed the agent to do. RivalBot helped me turn those requirements into the first version of the agent.

Once RivalBot created the initial version, I reviewed the setup in “Settings” to make sure it aligned with what I needed.

I went through each tab, checking the configurations along the way, until I reached the end and was ready to publish the agent.

How to use it:

There are two ways to use the Text Comparison Analyzer Agent on Rival.

1. Compare text directly in chat

Paste the original and updated text into the chat and ask the agent to identify what changed. This is useful for quick comparisons, such as checking revisions to a report.

2. Upload a file for a more structured comparison

When working with multiple items, upload a file containing the original and updated versions in separate columns. Ask the agent to compare each row and add a third column explaining what changed, or customize the output based on your preferred format.

This is especially useful when reviewing multiple content updates, as it keeps the original text, revised version, and explanation of the differences together in one place.

Other Use Cases

Beyond my own tasks, such as report revisions and website content optimization, the Text Comparison Analyzer Agent can also be useful to others who need to identify differences between two versions of text.

For example, this can be used to:

  • Review feedback and revisions: Check changes made by colleagues or reviewers before finalizing a document.

  • Compare research findings: Identify differences between two sets of notes or research summaries.

  • Track policy or process updates: See what has changed between an old and revised version of a policy, guideline, or procedure.

  • Review content updates in bulk: Compare multiple FAQs, product descriptions, or other website content in one file.

These are just a few examples. It may be a simple agent, but it can be useful for reducing the time spent manually comparing and reviewing text. Try this agent on Rival to see how it can fit into your own workflow.
